Three wide bays dig into the coastline of this small, flat island – the highest point, Burgh Hill, is only 46 metres above sea level. Wide sandy beaches are easily accessible, and the shallow coastline ensures that the sea glistens blue and green.  Be prepared for some dramatic coastal scenery by the Vat of Kirbister – a natural gloup that is testament to the unchecked forces of nature.

If you see people digging in the sand at St Catherine’s Bay, they are probably ‘spoot catchers', digging for razor fish (‘spoots’), an edible shell fish that makes its home in the low tidal sands of St Catherine’s Bay.
