Argyll & The Isles

Argyll has a magnificently indented coastline of sealochs, fringed by enchanting islands, set against a backdrop of spectacular and alluring mountains. What’s more there is space here for you, your thoughts and your imagination.

This precious edge of Europe exudes atmosphere. Here was the cradle of Scottish Christianity and the foundations of the nation itself. It was also central to the powerful Lordship of the Isles which held sway the western edge of Scotland in medieval times.

You will find the lure of Argyll seashores irresistible. There are lonely secluded beaches you'll share only with the wild birds and seals. Argyll also has rocky headlands jutting into the ocean, and harbours filled with delightful sights and sounds. Life here has a quiet and unhurried routine - boats leave from the fishing grounds in the morning and return with their catch in the evening, fishermen mend creels and nets on the harbour walls, and the villages themselves filled with faint murmurings of activity.

Argyll has inspired many artistic and cultural works – painters, novelists, poets and musicians have discovered this western edge of the nation to be astonishingly beautiful and uplifting. And, at any point on Argyll’s western edge, the sea, which brought pilgrims, travellers and ideas, is never far away.

Argyll has beauty, space and peace – could an escape to the edge ever be more perfect?
