Highlands - Ardnamurchan
Scottish Viewpoint

My heart's in the Highlands, my heart is not here, My heart's in the Highlands a-chasing the deer – A-chasing the wild deer, and following the roe; My heart's in the Highlands, wherever I go.

Ardnamurchan & Road to the Isles

Like all places worth visiting, Ardnamurchan takes a little effort to get to – but unlike most places, the journey itself can be its own reward. The magical and dramatic ‘Road to the Isles’ takes you through some of the most spectacular scenery imaginable. Imagine Bonny Prince Charlie standing at Glenfinnan, having rowed up imposing Loch Shiel, raising the Jacobite standard and sending a rallying cry out to those who were to join him in battle. A sobering thought such a peaceful place is forever linked to such bloodshed. Nature and man come together in perfect harmony on Loch nan Uamh, a spectacular railway viaduct providing one of the best views from the famous West Highland Line. Travelling on to Arisaig, wild mountains and lochs suddenly give way to deserted white sandy beaches overlooking The Small Isles. Having travelled this far, you will be rewarded with such a heartbreakingly intensive sunset over the islands you will lose your breath. And you will make a promise to yourself you will return. And you will keep this promise.
